Sebeok, with whom he collaborated closely, Umberto Eco shaped the goals and development of semiotic theory and practice since at least the mid-1970s. Umberto was born in Alessandria in the region of Piedmont, Italy in 1932. Umberto Eco was an Italian writer of fiction, essays, academic texts, and children's books. A professor of semiotics at the University of Bologna, Eco’s brilliant fiction is known for its playful use of language and symbols, its astonishing array of allusions and references, and clever use of puzzles and narrative inventions. The Philosophy of Umberto Eco (VOLUME XXXV, 2017) Umberto Eco was Professor Emeritus of Semiotics at the University of Bologna. He founded the first degree course in drama, art, and music studies, and set up the degree program of Communication Sciences, personally directing it in its early years.
